Through its live performances of classical music and education programs, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra aspires to exceed expectations, unite communities, challenge, delight, and inspire. In 2007, William Boughton became the tenth Music Director and Principal Conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Under his leadership and that of Executive Director Natalie Forbes, programs have expanded both geographically and musically, with concerts being performed in new venues, and new partnerships offering opportunities to share the NHSO’s high musical standards with audiences
throughout Connecticut.
The Vision of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra is to celebrate its classical music heritage, enriched through new American compositions, by expanding opportunities for symphonic performances and music education. The orchestra showcases live performances centered on symphony and pops concerts, supplemented by chamber and ensemble performances by orchestra members and guest artists. It also promotes new works by American composers-in-residence and composers well-versed in Asian, African and Latin traditions, including performances of their works. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra also helps to support youth and community orchestras and classical music education.
To promote the importance of music to a younger generation, the orchestra also holds performances for children and families that introduce the classical music heritage and the major forms of its presentation.
