There is nothing I like better than a classic French restaurant: no gimmicks, no over-the-top design, just crisp white tablecloths, dark wood paneling, scruffy floors, a blazing fire and food that delivers every time. Here's why I love Union League: lunch always feels like a celebration. A simple dish of pan roasted salmon resting on a fricasee of brussel sprouts and pearl onions in a puddle of mustard sauce, was sublime.
Or indulge with a perfect lobster omelette (organic eggs, of course) and a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Worth the trek or make a day of it: have lunch then head down the block for the Saarinen exhibit. www.unionleaguecafe.com
