Liv's Oyster Bar - Old Saybrook

Here's the crazy thing: I love Liv's and I haven't yet spread the word to e list readers. Shame on me. From our favorite hostess (Anna Maria) to our favorite waitress (Jackie) to always finding John (the chef/owner) in his kitchen, everything about Liv's lives up to John's exacting standards. Try the New England clam chowder (the real deal) topped with a buttermilk biscuit, crispy calamari with lemon salt, mussels in a wine/shallot/Dijon broth, and that's just for starters.
The fish dishes are excellent, but don't dismiss the free range roast chicken, either. My summer dinner (pictured): a dozen oysters, Cucumber Cosmo (a refreshing and not-too-sweet version of the classic cocktail) and John's take on salad Nicoise, garnished with white anchovies. Kid's menu from $4.75 to $6.75 and oysters are a buck on Wednesdays after Labor Day.
