My husband will be thrilled with a gift certificate to Sunshine Cycle Works in Colchester and Steak Frites at Cafe Routier. Luckily, he doesn't always read the list, so he'll still be surprised. That's not for everyone, however, so I asked my favorite geek, Jerry Zigmont of Macworks (our go-to fixit mac guy), for gift ideas for Father's Day. Here's his list:
Jawbone Big Jambox: Turn any phone, tablet or mobile device into a wireless, portable, hi-fi sound system. $299.
Nike+ FuelBand: Measures every move you make and turns it into NikeFuel. This slim wristband tracks each step and calorie burned. $149.
Apple TV - HD: Play movies, TV shows, stream Netflix and all your iTunes content (music, videos, photos) directly through your widescreen TV. $99.
Nest Learning Thermostat: This gizmo learns the temperatures you like, turns itself down when you're away and has remote control through wifi. $249.
Shopping local for dad? Here's my list:
Mix Design Store in Guilford for guy-friendly gadgets, bar and desk accessories (and 20% off all Father's Day gifts on Saturday, June 16th!)
J. Alden in Essex for classic to dandy dads (Bill's Khakis, Barbour, Gitman).
Anchor and Compass in Deep River for manly garb (Carhart, Woolrich) and man cave worthy gifts.
Khaki and Black (just moved back to Main Street in Madison) or Flutterby in Guilford for fashionistos.
Zane's Cycles in Branford or Sunshine Cycle Works in Colchester for the bike-obsessed.
Griswold Inn Store in Essex for sailing and seafaring goods and historical games and puzzles.
For the dad who's got enough stuff, a gift certificate to:
Empower Zipline in Middletown
CT Bike & Boat Tour in Guilford
Overland Experts 4x4 off road driver training in East Haddam
WhatSUP paddleboard lessons and rentals
Tall Ship Cruise on the Mystic Whaler: lobster dinner, daysail or overnight.
A Sports Massage at Vitality Spa
