I’m obsessed with food. I don’t know about you, but I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about it: where to get it, how to prepare it, what restaurant (or diet) to try next. I shop at myriad groceries and specialty stores for specific items, read endless cookbooks and food blogs and spend most Sundays cooking great vats of soup or stew. I love to feed people: my husband, my daughter, her friends, my friends; even the-e-list staff. (We have lunch together on Tuesdays. Their current favorite? White bean, sausage and kale soup.) And I’m fascinated by the culture of food, as my life and memories (good and bad) revolve around the table. This Saturday, I’m heading to The Yale Peabody Museum for the opening of Big Food: Health, Culture and the Evolution of Eating. The exhibit begins with the neuroscience of appetite and examines behavioral choices and the influence of social, environmental and cultural settings. Through multi-media displays and exhibits, learn about nutrition, healthy choices and food system sustainability. Games, craft activities, puppet shows and more for kids during opening day, this Saturday, February 11th from 10 - 4pm. Through December 2, 2012. peabody.yale.edu
